Lucky Ali talks at News Cafe
Cluburb got a chance to wish Lucky Ali a happy 53rd birthday over the weekend and talk about his music, travel and other stuff. He is in town and performing live on Saturday, 17th Sept at Leonia Resorts.
Cluburb: How’s the travel going on?
Lucky: Going good till now. Many places on the itinerary, this is just the beginning. Lets see how it shapes up.
C: And how’s your travel going on?
L: Oh! Mine is good too. When its not external, its internal.
C: You released Xsuie in digital version, and then you’re back to CD again with Raasta-Man. Any particular reason?
L: I went to releasing music online because I was conscious about creating electronic waste and I wanted to minimize my carbon footprint. But, I realized it was a compromise on the quality of the music. So I released a CD for Raasta-Man. Moreover, I was getting a lot of requests to bring out the next album on a CD. My production house wanted the same. So, now, I’m doing my bit for the environment via other efforts.
C: You travel so much. It tells about your view of experiencing things up-close. Your lyrics penned by Mr Aslam bear that feeling. Do you spend time with him explaining what you want to express?
L: Yes, I do. He has penned many lyrics for me. Sunoh, Gori Teri Aankhein, etc. He does seem to come up with poetry that speaks my mind. If it didn’t I wouldn’t have consented to sing it. These days, he’s writing lyrics for my younger brothers.
C: Please tell us about this album.
L: This album is called Sabrina and has 9 tracks. My brother Mansoor has sung for it. It is his first album. He’s named it after Sabrina, his daughter, who is a great singer herself. She is the one who, probably, has really taken after my father. She does theater also.
C: We’ve seen you act and sing. And you mentioned earlier that this is how you have felt like expressing yourself. Have you ever felt like doing it via any other medium?
L: Oh, yes. I have been painting as and when I get time. In fact, I’m about to finish my latest canvas. And I’m also directing a film which will be up for release maybe in the summers of 2012. Raasta-Man is another series in which I have expressed myself in a new way.
C: We wish luck for your movie and for Raasta-Man. You have also played an assassin in a movie. Is there anger somewhere?
L: I’m usually a very calm person. But, at times there comes a tipping point where I lose my temper. So, yes. I was able to relate to this character as well. Again, I wouldn’t have done it otherwise.
C: Thanks for your time, Lucky. We wish you a happy birthday!
L: Thanks a lot, I’d like to hear how you liked Raasta-Man.
C: Sure, please take care.
L: You, too.
